PALABRAS, PALABRAS, PALABRAS

I have always loved reading and I am fascinated by books, words and letters, so I am very excited to bring you this exhibition that I have called PALABRAS, PALABRAS, PALABRAS inspired by the Italian song PAROLE, PAROLE PAROLE PAROLE, that I have sung so many times in long nights of fun when I lived in Italy. Somehow, we are, think and relate to each other according to the words we think, hear, read and learn, making them a major part of ourselves.

My fascination with words leads me to also really like artworks in which artists use phrases, words or letters to make art, called “textual art” which can take many forms, from visual and calligraphic poetry to artworks that use letters and words as central elements of their design or play with typography, the arrangement of words and their meaning to convey messages and express emotions in a creative way, as do the four artists, two men and two women participating in this exhibition.

Eduardo Marco

Eduardo has done a great deal of research on the classic works of The Illiad, The Odyssey and The Aeneid, generating a list of some fifteen hundred names listed in order of appearance and represented in squares that reflect, black on white, their presence and importance in the corresponding texts. The dark area occupies each square, according to the number of appearances of the characters in the works. The result is quantifiable, as there is a direct relationship between the shaded area and the number of times the character is mentioned, and with this Eduardo has created a unique work for each name.

María JL Hierro

This artist, whose creative process stems from her concern to have time to reflect and to question current human behavior, has created for this exhibition a “Cloth of words”, consisting of works of great beauty, as are always hers, in which thanks to the arrangement of the letters, unique forms are created. Maria plays with the letters, with color and position, and obtains a simple and direct visual poetry that concludes its message in the mind of the observer, so that everyone can create their own composition.

Mukesh Shah

In this exhibition he brings us the PLAYLIST series in which since 2016 he has been creating a series of works in which he plays to draw our attention to current issues in a provocative and fun way. Each work has four vertical lines, a maximum of fourteen letters and with a maximum of five letters per line. We will also have works from his new series ALGORITHM in which he explores the power of texts in the digital age that has turned algorithms into the new gods – omnipresent, opaque, powerful and all-knowing – in the end, the new ultimate power of our decisions.

Nieves Álvarez

He makes us an exhibition proposal that speaks of life, love, confusion, poetry, lights and shadows. The small pieces are a way to catch the poetic words in glass jars, a way to understand, share, illusion, remember, make it possible for the imagination to invade us and propose new ideas to continue moving forward. Nieves has created a composition of 500 bottles in which we will find texts of Santa Teresa that accompanies other works in which the word and verse generate beauty. vertical, a maximum of fourteen letters and a maximum of five letters per line.
