The exhibition brings together an extensive selection of César Barrio’s most recent work, produced between 2025 and 2026. Moving across painting, sculpture, photography, and video, the artist establishes a dialogue between different processes and languages, creating a body of work in constant transformation.
Throughout this body of work, Barrio explores the image as a space of transition, displacement, and discovery. His works appear to construct and dismantle themselves simultaneously, as though emerging from a material that already contains the impulse for its own transformation. The process therefore takes on a fundamental role: painting is not presented as something definitive, but rather as an event that gradually reveals itself through action, chance, uncertainty, and time.
The exhibition proposes a search that extends beyond the visible surface of the artwork, moving towards what remains concealed: its interior, its reverse, and its more corporeal and material dimension. Through this displacement, the boundaries between exterior and interior become blurred, while the image appears, disappears, and is reconstructed before the viewer’s eyes.
As Alberto Ruiz de Samaniego observes, Barrio’s painting occupies a territory in which “the artwork is not made: it is found.” This idea defines a practice grounded in uncertainty and in the possibility of the artwork emerging autonomously, making the creative process an essential part of the experience.
