A visual interpretation of nature—drawings of moments and experiences rescued from deep memory. A kind of cultural and visual baggage the artist brings with him after leaving his life in Colombia.
“Since childhood, I’ve always been amazed by the lushness of the tropical rainforest and the cold or mountain rainforest: I was struck by the richness of shapes and colors of the different trees and plants, the irregular surfaces full of mysterious openings, the textures, the tones… For the eye of a young visual artist, this was a truly exquisite and explosive cocktail of rhythms, tones, and contrasts.”
Charcoal takes center stage here: a medium that is initially rough and dirty, mineral in its most degraded state, yet it transforms into life and shapes—both imprecisely and precisely—those experiences now blurred and faded in memory. These are distant yet intense memories, literally revived from ash and charcoal. Memories in black and white, with deep tones and vibrant contrasts—memories of a black rainforest.
